Navantia signs the execution order with Defense

Navantia and the Ministry of Defense signed the execution order yesterday for the construction of the five F-110 frigates for the Spanish Navy. In this way, the commitment acquired less than a month ago by Minister Margarira Robles was fulfilled

According to the public company, this new generation of frigates F-110 stands out for having a Spanish design and a high degree of industrial and technological sovereignty, since around 80% of purchases and supplies will be made to Spanish companies. It will be the first major Spanish naval program developed within the framework of Shipyard 4.0, which will involve the most advanced integrated control and simulation systems, with the digital twin, which will be complemented by a nervous management system and intelligent communication “without cables”. In addition, they will be the first vessels in the fleet to have an integrated cybersecurity system that shields them from growing threats.

The design of this new frigate will incorporate notable technological advances, such as the new integrated mast configured with different sensor and antenna solutions, the incorporation of a multi-mission space that expands the ship’s capabilities in all defense segments and a new Hybrid propulsion plant more efficient and silent. In addition, it will integrate unmanned vehicles on board and will have capacity for the future installation of directed energy weapons. The frigates will be equipped with a Spanish combat system, Scomba, developed by Navantia. It is a system that acts as the brain of the ship and integrates all the sensors and weapons of the frigate.
