The Dutch Navy is conducting a tender for the acquisition of new submarines, called the Walrus Replacement Program. Navantia entá proposing for this contest an adaptation of the submarine S80 Plus of the Spanish Navy with a modern design and a size similar to the Walrus class, of about 3000 tons.
The S-80 design is already in an advanced state of production, so there is a minimum technical, financial and deadline risk, which is a great advantage over other new designs. In addition, the infrastructures of the shipyard allow an important economic saving with respect to other economic offers.
Past cooperation between the two countries with the AOR and LPD programs proved successful and successful. Navantia already has relations with Dutch suppliers and partners in the naval field, who will be able to participate in the program, given that there is a strong commitment with the industry of the country to be able to guarantee the life cycle of the submarines.
